Zhang Changbing is an old-school programmer who values his relationships but has little emotional intelligence. Though he is a team leader, his overwhelming sympathy gets the better of him during a meeting called to announce a new leader parachuting into the department. He shows a little concern for the outgoing boss, only to earn the new leader's resentment. Thus he gets caught up in the workplace turmoil, and before he knows it, he has become the “chicken” being killed to scare the monkeys.
Day after day, he is deliberately provoked and targeted at work, leaving Zhang Changbing unable to sleep.
In the end, thanks to his technical skills, good character, and rapid personal growth, he turns the situation around. Rather than being driven out or fired, he turns misfortune into good fortune.
