Even if his memory and calculation skills are no longer good, he can still study mathematics. Mathematics and abstraction are more related to intuition, and calculations can be left to tools. However, this mainly depends on everyone's understanding of consciousness. From a philosophical perspective, self-identity depends on memory and the self-narrative that constitutes this part. Without memory, there is indeed a defect in this aspect. But for me, my personal judgment of consciousness does not depend on memory. Even if he loses part of his memory, this person is still the same person. There is always some essence that remains unchanged. In this sense, I do not think "Alan" is really dead. After reading this story, I only felt fear, but not grief. I don't know why.
