Hong Kong Films: Chen Qi, the Most Overbearing Boss on Hong Kong Island

In Hong Kong Island’s underworld, Chen Qi’s arrival upended everything people thought they knew. His gang members enjoyed benefits that left others speechless: meals at cha chaan tengs, treatment for injuries at clinics, and late-night snacks at food stalls, all covered. Even more astonishing, their boss reimbursed their rent, helped pay their mortgages, covered their fuel costs, and gave them bonuses when they got married or had children. A fixed monthly income of 30,000 had everyone else green with envy, including Chen Qi’s own nephew, who longed to join them.

With his own overwhelming strength, Chen Qi led a crew of formidable fighters, including Long Juanfeng, Da Laoban, Wang Xiaolong, Wang Xiaohu, and Gao Qiqiang, as they carved their way through the underworld. When Chen Qi declared that they would take over Wan Chai, his underlings burned with enthusiasm and swore to follow him to the death, eager to help their boss and earn themselves a raise. And so Chen Qi, the most generous boss to his underlings on Hong Kong Island, rose to power, ushering in a legendary underworld tale full of passion and bravado.
