Record of Ancient Mysterious Jade

Winter nights at the southern foot of Mount Cangwu were always exceptionally long. Ye Qingli, an apprentice at the blacksmith's shop, was crouched beside the stove, feeding it firewood. Amid the crackling sparks, a clear, melodious cry of a phoenix suddenly rang out.

The very foundations of the blacksmith's shop trembled, and as snow slid from the roof, the boy saw seven golden-red fissures split open in the northwestern night sky. What fell from the central fissure wasn't a meteor, but a dark-purple crystal half a person tall, its surface rippling with patterns like a star chart.
