In 1937, the Battle of Songhu broke out, and the city of Shanghai was plunged into flames of war. Shen Nianqiu and Gu Huaijin were originally a couple of secret agents lurking in Shanghai. They jointly performed secret missions for the cause of resisting Japan. They only waited for the completion of the last mission to hold an ordinary and happy wedding. However, the gears of fate turned ruthlessly, and Gu Huaijin died in a mission. Shen Nianqiu was heartbroken and vowed to avenge her husband.
