Love, a Shadow in the Mirror

While cleaning the study, Wen Zhaoyun noticed that the safe reserved for Yan Dongqing had been left open.

A photograph inside caught her eye.

Yan Dongqing had his arm around Jiang Xinian and their son in his arms. All three wore birthday hats, looking every bit like a happy family of three.

A few lines were written on the back of the photo: Taken on January 25, 2024, Xinian’s birthday.

Wen Zhaoyun tried not to read too much into it, but the warmth captured in the photo made her heart feel as though it had cracked.

With trembling hands, she put the photo back. Beside it lay a notebook.

She opened it. Page after page was covered in Yan Dongqing’s handwriting.
