Flower of the Opposite Shore

In 1973, China was still in troubled times. During the quarantine period, Li Fengwen, an educated youth, gave birth to her second daughter at home, named Shi Zhizhi. Due to her slow speech, she was widely discriminated against by the villagers. Her emotional bottom line was constantly challenged, which made her rebellious attributes skyrocketed. In order to avoid being bullied by the villagers, she read alone at home, searched for the flowers of the other side she saw in the book in the grass on the river bank, and fished and caught shrimps with the older children. The special family structure, the rural customs and prejudices, and this required childhood course caused her to have cognitive confusion and delusions. Mother and daughter support each other, trudging through the spiritual swamp, and their thoughts and consciousness grow and awaken crazily on their own trajectories. My mother was unyielding in the face of difficulties, and her strong endurance and wise way of doing things gave her the will to move forward and change her destiny against the odds. Bringing mother back to the big city is a spiritual contract between mother and daughter. Grandma passed away from stomach cancer, and the world gave her her first farewell. She transferred to Xi'an from high school and the college entrance examination was about to take place. Bad news came that her mother died in a car accident. Her studies came to an abrupt end and she returned to the place of her birth. Her dream hangs in the distant sky, and after she hits the bottom, she is once again planning to rise from the ashes to fulfill her spiritual contract. This book uses a child's perspective and social touch to describe the sequelae of the Cultural Revolution, the mother and daughter's journey of changing their lives and healing their wounds.
