The Old Man Faked His Death and Ran Off, So I Inherited the Shangqing Sect

[Easygoing and witty] [Decisive and ruthless] [Exorcism by brute force] [Born demon child] [Mythology collides] [No ensemble cast] [Unorthodox sect-building]

Ten years ago, he transmigrated to a strange world that bore a seven- or eight-tenths resemblance to his previous life.

An old con man had been telling fortunes under a bridge.

Cao Jian had thought he’d spend his whole life roaming the land with the old man, putting on airs and swindling people. Then, on his eighteenth birthday, a community officer summoned him to the Public Security Bureau.

“What did you say? You called me here in the middle of the night just to tell me the old man was beaten to death?”

…

“You’re sure he drowned? He didn’t die during an autopsy?”

…

“What did you say? The old man ran off with eight corpses after faking his own death?”

…

After the old man, who had been autopsied, rose from the dead and fled, he left behind the headmaster’s ring of the Shangqing Sect. Cao Jian used it to activate his System.

Wasn’t the Shangqing Sect wiped out?

That’s not the point.

The point is that after the System activated, Cao Jian discovered it didn’t return hundreds or thousands of times the cultivation his disciples gained. Instead, his own cultivation progress was reflected back to them.

What kind of “reliable ancestor” System is this?

It’s clearly a nanny System, isn’t it?

…

“Great Immortal, Great Immortal, don’t kill me! I serve Marshal Ben and Marshal Ba!”

“What Marshal Ben? What Marshal Ba? I’m Benboerba and Baboberben!”

“Great Immortal, you know my marshals?”

…

“That female ghost isn’t very powerful, but she does have some connections.”

“She’s the ghost servant of Tree Demon Granny, who serves the Black Mountain Old Demon.”

…

“That Black Mountain Old Demon and my marshals are both demon commanders under Ancestor Zu Feng!”
