At thirty, Lin Mo's life has plunged into an endless abyss. He has no money, owes a hundred thousand, has no education or skills, and is ugly enough to be despised by everyone. On a stormy night, he curls up in a subway station restroom, when his phone suddenly force-installs an app called Fate Rewriter. He becomes a test subject in a social-waste recycling experiment, completely under the control of an AI System.
The System's tasks grow more perverse each time: eat cat food, betray a friend, spread rumors to cause panic. Complete them, and he gets a pitiful reward. In the process, Lin Mo's humanity is warped and his body pushed to the limit. When he finally realizes he is nothing but a plaything of capital, reduced to training data for an exploitative algorithm, he snaps!
Lin Mo decides to fight back, using AI to take on AI and exposing the dark truth to millions of viewers during a livestream. But just as he thinks it is all about to end, a new test subject is selected. When will this terrifying cycle finally stop?
