Around the year 2000, the coastal economy is growing rapidly, and factories spring up everywhere, attracting countless migrant workers. Young Wang Yu and Lin Yue leave different villages for the same factory and begin their working lives. The work is grueling, the dormitories cramped, the cafeteria food plain, and entertainment scarce. After their exhausting shifts, the workers' inner lives are left painfully empty.
