After an Alpha is coveted by a top-tier Beta

Lin Chao is an Alpha from a prominent family, though his natural gifts are ordinary. His pheromones carry the clean, crisp scent of cedar, and his life has always followed a predictable course. One rainy night, he kindly helps a destitute Beta, only to be pursued by him outright. Lin Chao turns him down and thinks little of it, never realizing that the man is Lu Shen, a business magnate.

This Beta, who doesn't even have pheromones, develops a possessive obsession after being rejected. He carefully engineers a business war against the Lin family, bankrupting them overnight. Lin Chao falls from the heights of privilege and struggles to survive in the mud.

When Lin Chao is at his most desperate, Lu Shen appears “by chance” like a savior, offering help with effortless grace and never mentioning the past. Lin Chao is overwhelmed with gratitude, even feeling guilty for rejecting him before. As dependence and gratitude take hold, tender feelings gradually begin to stir.

Then the truth tears the illusion apart: every disaster and every act of “kindness” was part of a script Lu Shen had written and staged himself. Lin Chao's pride as an Alpha crumbles completely. He resists furiously, yet cannot escape the spellbinding memories. Lu Shen, meanwhile, continues his life in unruffled calm, as if nothing ever happened. Only deep in his eyes lies a quiet composure, one that comes from having everything under control and that no one can understand.
