Ji Xianfeng is an ordinary modern-day bookstore clerk who has read countless detective novels. By a twist of fate, he ends up becoming a detective. Shao Genjing is an eighth-generation traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who speaks almost entirely in rhymes and occasionally dabbles in the occult, but he and Ji Xianfeng are always getting into comic mishaps along the way. Through a series of cases, Ji Xianfeng eventually uncovers the truth behind his parents' tragic accidental deaths.
