The Legitimate Daughter Only Wants Power

Lin Wanxi, the legitimate eldest daughter of the Marquis of Zhennan's household, should have been someone of the highest standing. Yet now she stood in the main hall of the marquis's residence, brows tightly furrowed and her expression grave. All around her, maids and matrons formed a circle, sizing her up with gazes that ranged from curiosity to disdain. At the head of the hall, Marquis Lin Zhengtian's face was dark with anger, his eyes wide and blazing as if he were about to breathe fire.

"Lin Wanxi, what else do you have to say?" The marquis slammed his hand on the table. Even the teacups on it trembled, spilling a little tea.

Lin Wanxi was filled with grievance and fury. She straightened her back, her voice clear and resolute. "Father, your daughter has absolutely never had an illicit affair. This is clearly a deliberate frame-up!"

It turned out that the previous day, a poetry gathering had been held, an elegant occasion where the children of Kyoto's noble families came together to exchange literary ideas. With her striking beauty and talent, Lin Wanxi had drawn everyone's attention as soon as she arrived. She wore a moon-white brocade dress, its hem embroidered with pale blue orchids. As she moved, she was like a blossoming green lotus, elegant and noble.
