After the sun disappeared, humans struggled to survive in the "Age of Ashes." Strange creatures called "gods" rule the surface, and humans awaken their "sequence abilities" to fight against them. The protagonist has a special sequence "God Eater" to gain power by devouring the remains of gods, but at the cost of gradually losing his humanity.
