The Light on a Lonely Island Is a Poem of the Night

The world of Song Yusen, a waiter, was a cramped rented room, the greasy fumes of a restaurant kitchen, and the suffocating web woven by depression. A few cruel, taunting remarks became the last straw that broke him.

When he woke after a failed suicide attempt, the smell of disinfectant in the hospital ward stung his nose and brought tears to his eyes. The sight of his grandmother keeping watch by his bedside made him taste regret for the first time.

He thought he would be trapped forever on this lonely island called “Despair,” until Yang Qiaoqiao appeared. The college student with dimples when she smiled was like a ray of light drifting onto the island by chance. She never asked about his past or hurried him toward recovery. She simply stayed with him when he fell silent, bringing a little warmth into the depths of his long-frozen heart.
