They Sent a Prince to Marry into Another Kingdom. If I Don't Head South, I'll Lose

In the Sheng Dynasty, a woman ascended the throne, and the legitimacy of her claim was fiercely disputed.

I was an unfavored prince, struggling to survive in an age when men’s power was waning.

Women dominated the court, men’s status had plummeted, and sending men abroad as political spouses had even become fashionable.

And I, a prince pushed to the margins, was unfortunate enough to be chosen for such a marriage.

I thought I was facing a miserable fate, but secretly I was delighted. This might be my chance to change my destiny.

On the first day of the political marriage, I made my father-in-law’s family take the surname Li, declaring my ambitions to them.

On the second day, I resolutely changed the dynasty’s name to Great Tang, making my determination to restore its glory abundantly clear.

On the third day, Great Tang declared war on Wu Zhou.

With the powerful, well-equipped tribes of the grasslands at my command, I led my troops south.

The border forces defected as soon as they saw me, hailing me as their new emperor.

A great contest for the throne was about to unfold at Xuanwu Gate.

“Mommy, see you at Xuanwu Gate.”

I would reclaim the throne that was rightfully mine, restore Great Tang to its former glory, and set this distorted world right.
