This novel tells the story of a non-mainstream teenager.
The story takes place between 2007 and 2010.
It was a peculiar era when the internet was just becoming widespread. Teenagers were becoming addicted to going online; school bullying, skipping class and playing truant, running away from home, teenage pregnancies, shamate fashion, Martian script, the Funeral of Love clan, and young migrant workers all emerged and surged during those years.
Few people truly understood those troubled teenagers, or the root causes of the non-mainstream phenomenon.
The public called them social blights and threats to public safety.
Their relatives and families saw them as strange and different.
Strangers often looked at them with scorn.
Yet, as someone who lived through that era, I sincerely feel that the non-mainstream phenomenon was like a pink butterfly flower: it bloomed only once in a lifetime, never to bloom again.
They were the purest, trendiest, prettiest, most colorful, most genuine, most rebellious, and bravest young people.
This novel is unlike all the popular novels of today. It is not fantasy, not about transmigration, not about the underworld, and not about being reborn. It has no supernatural abilities and follows no formula. It is simply a pure urban romance story.
It carries an air of melancholy and sadness.
This is truly a breath of fresh air in the world of fiction.
