I Picked Up an Imperial Envoy and Got into Terrible Trouble

[Crime Solving] [Runaway Bride] [Political Intrigue] [Sweet Romance] [Healing]

A quick-witted village girl and a cunning imperial inspector, from trying to outmaneuver each other to risking their lives for one another.

They say you should never pick up a man by the roadside. Once you do, there’s no getting away!

Su Jin came from the 21st century and made a living selling skin cream and getting by on her wits. She firmly believed that “picking up a man by the roadside brings a lifetime of bad luck,” but on a mountain she was forced to take in a richly dressed man who had been gravely injured. Thinking, “Save a life, get a little something in return,” she dragged him home, planning to sell him for cash once he woke up.

But when the man came to, he didn’t let her sell him. Instead, he seized on Su Jin’s weakness and threatened her with a cold laugh. “Either help me solve this case, or I’ll send you to meet...”

Su Jin was at a loss, but had no choice but to grit her teeth and help the imperial inspector investigate. She followed him to Shengjing, where her life was turned upside down. By day, she pretended to be a maid and helped him solve cases; by night, she had to watch out for assassins sent by his enemies. He kept her running around at his beck and call, yet she couldn’t help being drawn to his charm. As Gu Junyi spent more time with her, he discovered that beneath her seemingly greedy, sly exterior was a kind and resilient heart.

But as the investigation went deeper, danger closed in from every direction. A corrupt official’s henchmen set their sights on Su Jin, hoping to use her to threaten Gu Junyi. Realizing she had become a burden, Su Jin decided to run, but he caught her and dragged her back. Gritting his teeth, he said, “You saved my life, so you’re responsible for me to the end!”

Yet the gulf between their stations, the corrupt officials’ pursuit, and the court’s political schemes all make their relationship an uphill struggle.

Can Su Jin escape the curse that picking up men brings bad luck?
