[No blood relation, eight-year age gap, sweet romance, a little angst]
Jiang Yuye and Su Er have never been cowards.
Ten years ago, after her parents divorced, Su Er was a burden no one wanted. Ten years later, her mother remarried and brought her into the Jiang family, making her a rich heiress in name.
Her father doesn't care for her, her mother doesn't love her, and her boyfriend of five years turns out to be a scheming scumbag who runs off with her stepsister.
With resentment bottled up inside, she drinks to drown her sorrows, only to be thoroughly taken advantage of.
Su Er doesn't give it much thought. At her mother's wedding, she puts on a sweet, pitiful act.
But when she sees the man from that night again, she can't keep up the act anymore.
“This is your uncle, Jiang Yuye.”
Su Er's world collapses.
Only later does she discover that he's also her direct boss.
If she can't afford to offend him, she can at least avoid him.
But when word gets out that she's getting engaged, he corners her and murmurs seductively, “Er'er, are you really going to get married?”
She looks away. “I have to get married someday.”
A shadow crosses the man's eyes, and his thin lips curl into a smile. “If you have to get married, why can't it be me?”
“Jiang Yuye, you're crossing a line.”
Later, amid everyone's vile insults, Jiang Yuye shields her.
“I was the one with improper intentions. I worked so hard to win her over. If you scare her off, who's going to give me a wife?”
