This science fiction novel builds an imaginative, adventurous universe. Its plot, characters, and worldbuilding all have notable strengths, though there is certainly room for improvement.
- Plot: The pacing is well handled. Between the thrilling adventures and battles, the story deftly weaves in warm emotional moments, such as the joy and responsibility brought by Ling Yue's pregnancy. This creates a satisfying ebb and flow, avoiding unrelenting tension and keeping readers emotionally invested. However, some plot threads are drawn out a little too long. The exploration of the ruins on Anxin Star, for example, includes so much detail that it slows the main story to some extent. Trimming it could make the pacing tighter.
- Characterization: The characters are distinctive. Wang Erpang grows from a reckless hothead into a responsible expectant father, while Heihu's mysterious power and wealth of experience leave a strong impression. But Momo's awakening of her abilities feels somewhat rushed, without enough foreshadowing or exploration of her inner struggles. This leaves her character arc underdeveloped. Delving into it further could make her more well-rounded.
- Worldbuilding strengths: Unique concepts such as chaotic energy and shadow power add mystery and depth to the story. The interplay of light and darkness, along with time-space abilities, enriches the battles and adventures, creating a fantastical universe. However, the mysterious organization is portrayed rather superficially. It is shown only as greedy and evil, with little exploration of its beliefs or internal structure, making the villains feel less nuanced and diminishing the story's depth.
- Themes: The story revolves around protecting peace and order in the universe, and through its adventures, it explores courage
