Cyber-Lovecraft | Memory Black Market | Quantum Sutras | Flesh-and-Blood Cybernetics
In a doomsday city where neon dances with the abyss, memories are both the most dangerous currency and the final prison.
In 2085, every inch of air in the floating city of Wangchuan is steeped in the whispers of cybernetic gods and the briny stench of blood from the deep sea. People here sell their memories to survive: pawning the flutter of first love to an AI matchmaker, selling their fear of death to cultists on the ocean floor, even cutting the images of their childhood out of their minds in exchange for the illusory warmth of a single night of bionic dreams.
Su Ye is a tuner who drifts through the memory black market. His left eye is a bionic implant that belonged to his late sister, and a worm that feeds on pain lives in his spine. His job is to trim his clients' memories: erase a tycoon's shuddering recollection of patricide, implant false warmth in a killer, or “purify” the stray thoughts of worshippers for the electronic Bodhisattva in an AI shrine. Then, one rainy night, a corrupted memory chip etched with the pattern of his sister's iris drags him into a vortex of truth darker than the deep sea.
When our memories become someone else's food,
when gods are nothing more than runaway algorithms,
how much of your soul would you pay for “truth”?
