Retaining the style and framework of the previous synopsis, Yang Jian has been replaced with Yang Yichen, and the relationships and conflicts between the characters have been reworked:
Luo Xi, a noble Dragon Clan princess, is swept into a journey called "the pilgrimage for scriptures," which is really a gilded, preordained path to deification. Gentle and kind, with a heart for all living things, she faces a road already riddled with schemes and conspiracies from every faction.
Lie Qian, from Chentang Pass, is brave and fearless, afraid of nothing. The fire in his heart drives him to plunge into this mess. Though casual and carefree by nature, he always steps forward when danger strikes.
Yang Yichen was once a renowned Perfected Lord, but was demoted after a power struggle in the Celestial Court. Unmatched in martial skill and upright in character, he reluctantly joins this westward journey. Steadfast and dependable, he quietly protects his companions while searching for the truth.
The Great Sage Equal to Heaven, Sun Wukong, once threw the Three Realms into chaos by his own power. Wild and untamable, he was set up by the Celestial Court and forced to join this westward journey, which appears to be about obtaining the scriptures but is really about various factions carving up the spoils. His powers are vast, yet amid these tangled circumstances, he too has felt lost and struggled.
The four have very different personalities and each has their own agenda as they set out on this westward journey, rife with hypocrisy and political scheming. On the surface, it is a quest for scriptures and deification; in truth, it is a contest over the interests of various factions. Along the way, demons and monsters are merely manipulated pawns, while the hidden hands of the Celestial Court and the Underworld secretly shape events. Can they hold fast to their true selves amid this "gilded expedition," filled with lies and betrayal, break free of the shackles of political intrigue, and find the "true scriptures" that truly belong to them?
