At XX Hospital
“Hey, hey, Dr. Gu, take it easy. That’s not your hand!” Zhang Wenqing has lost count of how many times he’s come to the hospital outpatient clinic to have a bone set. The man across from him may be cold, but he’s usually gentle with his hands. When he hears Zhang say this, however, he presses harder.
Zhang Wenqing shoots to his feet, pain flashing through him. “Gu Nianfan!”
At the sound of his name, Gu Nianfan can’t hide his amusement. “I told you not to go alone. You get hurt every time.”
Zhang Wenqing sits back down and pouts. “Well, a certain doctor is always too busy. What good is giving me a spirit?”
A blue orb of light flies from his hand, changing into a rabbit plushie that circles Gu Nianfan as it complains, “Master, Sanyuan did its best, but Young Master Qing keeps going to dangerous places.” The toy’s face crumples in a sulk, and its little hands poke at each other in front of its chest.
Gu Nianfan holds out a hand, and the little thing rubs its head against him. Zhang Wenqing can’t bear to watch and shoots them a sideways glance. “Hmph, all it can do is act innocent and tattle.”
Then, lips still pursed, he demands, “If you knew I was in danger, why didn’t you come? You used to show up all the time.”
Gu Nianfan taps the tip of his nose. “You call that danger? You got startled by a measly little ghost, fell down, and dislocated your hand?”
Zhang Wenqing refuses to back down. “I don’t care. My hand’s still not better, so you’re cooking tonight.”
“Wasn’t I the one who cooked last time?”
“I’m not washing the dishes.”
“Then let’s do something else instead.”
Zhang Wenqing falls silent.
