The day before the medical checkup results came out, Xu Suian took an application form to Song Huan.
“Uncle, I’ve made up my mind. I’m giving up the position I applied for in this year’s civil service exam and going to Tibet to teach.”
Spring had only just begun. The cool evening breeze swept over his slender frame, while his usually gentle eyes gleamed with determination.
Song Huan froze for a moment, then sighed.
“Are you sure? I thought you wanted to quit and go back to the Xu family to help Chen Jianjin. But teaching in Tibet is fine too, just a little harder. You’ll be gone for three to five years without coming back. Have you talked it over with your family?”
“There’s no need. I can make this decision myself.”
Hearing the names of the Xu family and Chen Jianjin made Xu Suian’s heart ache. When he looked up again, the pain in his eyes had faded.
The Xu family and Chen Jianjin probably couldn’t stand the sight of him, let alone miss him.
After his uncle died in a fire ten years ago while saving him, though no one knew what had caused the blaze, his parents brought Chen Jianjin home and doted on him, while treating Xu Suian with indifference.
All because they believed Xu Suian owed Chen Jianjin a life.
