I bought New Year goods to take to my parents' home for the holiday, and my husband got upset.
“You buy things every time you visit your parents, and you go every month. It's costing too much!”
“I earn more than you, and you earn less but spend more. That's not fair. From now on, let's split everything fifty-fifty!”
I agreed without a word and laid down three rules.
From then on, we'd sleep in separate rooms, each of us would support our own parents, and I'd charge for cooking and housework.
A year later, my husband, now living paycheck to paycheck, got down on his knees and apologized, asking me to call off the three rules.
I smiled and handed him the divorce papers.
“It'd be better if we made a clean break.”
Gone????
