Zhu Shitai, chief engineer at the National Weapons Group, has had a strange dream for as long as he can remember.
In the dream, he is the eldest legitimate son of Zhu Xizhong, Duke of Chengguo, during the Jiajing era, and seems to live another entire life.
Then, during a student-led test of a new weapon, its power far exceeds expectations.
An explosion takes the lives of everyone present. Zhu Shitai feels himself sucked into a dazed, hazy place by the longevity lock he has worn since childhood.
Amid the cries of a newborn baby, Zhu Shitai is born into the Duke of Chengguo’s residence in the eleventh year of Jiajing’s reign.
A handsome young man slips a longevity lock into the infant Zhu Shitai’s swaddling.
Then the young man looks at Zhu Shitai and says, “My son will surely grow up safe and sound”...
A dream? An illusion? The real me?
