The Western Front, 1917

"When the scalpel cuts through a wounded man's flesh, civilization dissects its own heart."

A novel blending war, philosophy, and absurdism. Set during World War I, it reveals the deep corruption war inflicts on humanity and civilization through the stories of a military doctor who forges maps, a rat warped by war, and a German corporal who surrenders. The book offers not only vivid scenes of bloody battle, but also philosophical reflections on wartime tools such as carbolic acid solution and birch-bark wax: are they instruments of salvation or destruction? Of liberation, or of deeper enslavement?

This work is not only an indictment of war, but also a profound interrogation of the meaning of human existence. It is a chilling yet thought-provoking masterpiece of war literature.

For readers who enjoy All Quiet on the Western Front, 1984, and The Plague.

(Not a wish-fulfillment story, no female lead, World War I, heartbreak galore. Please leave a few comments, thank you.)
