Lin Xiao Jian, a petty thug from Qingfeng Town, is probably the most unfairly unlucky person in the cultivation world. He gets struck by lightning while trying to absorb spiritual energy, blows up his alchemy furnace and gets soot all over his face, gets chased three miles by venomous bees while gathering herbs, and even gets kicked in the butt by a donkey while sitting in a corner to bask in the sun.
It isn't until he finds a battered copy of The Book of Bad Luck that he realizes his cursed constitution is actually a heaven-defying asset. Being hunted by demonic beasts? Don't panic. The pit he falls into might hide an ancient inheritance. Framed by an elder? No need to worry. You can even pry cultivation secrets out of the cracks in a cell wall.
Even stranger, the white fox he saves transforms into Ling'er, a quirky young woman. She always shows up when he's having bad luck. She seems to cause trouble, but always shoves him out of the way just before lightning strikes and tugs his sleeve right before a trap snaps shut.
“What are you after?” Lin Xiao Jian asks, his face covered in lumps.
Ling'er swings her twin buns and smiles. “Once you've piled up enough bad luck, you can help me find something.”
And so the entire cultivation world watches as the jinx who wrecks everything he touches, accompanied by a mysterious young woman, steps through tribulations, crashes into secret realms, and tears conspiracies apart. He turns a life of “choking on your own spit after drinking cold water” into a triumphant tale of “getting three times stronger with every stroke of bad luck.”
A crooked elder wants to kill him? Ha! Let him first try getting his own face blasted by a poison pill. A demonic overlord wants to steal his secret manual? Sorry, your killing formation just got trampled apart by a passing wild boar.
Lin Xiao Jian thumps his chest. “Don't ask. I'm just lucky, in the most spectacularly unlucky way!”
Ling'er adds, “No, I chose him. Even the worst luck can bloom into something beautiful~”
