Chen Xuan, a top student in modern history, transmigrates in a bizarre accident and becomes Li You, the ninth son of Li Shimin of the Tang Dynasty. Before he can even get used to life in ancient times, the Great Tang's Rise System binds itself to his mind, launching him on a path to turn his fortunes around in the Tang Dynasty.
Barely arrived, Chen Xuan faces the test of the imperial hunt. With the System's help and his own ingenuity, he shines on the hunting grounds, claiming a great many prizes and even capturing a rare white fox alive. He earns Li Shimin's praise and generous System rewards, making a name for himself, but also stirring the envy of the other princes and the undercurrents roiling through the court.
In the palace library, Chen Xuan meets Su Yao, a gentle and talented young woman. They bond over poetry and song, and affection gradually blossoms between them. However, Su Yao's father is framed by a treacherous minister. To protect his beloved, Chen Xuan uses the System to uncover the truth and clear her father's name, bringing the two of them even closer.
While traveling incognito outside the palace, Chen Xuan also meets Liu Yiyi, a bold and spirited woman of the martial world. When she is bullied by local thugs, Chen Xuan steps in to help, and Liu Yiyi later moves into his residence. As they spend more time together, he discovers that she bears the weight of her sect's mission and carries a mysterious jade pendant. The two join forces to roam the martial world, and their feelings quietly grow.
Caught between Su Yao's gentle refinement and Liu Yiyi's bold candor, Chen Xuan is torn between the two. But before he can resolve his romantic entanglements, the System keeps issuing new missions, from helping Li Shimin address the people's hardships to dealing with diplomatic disputes and expanding the Tang Dynasty's trade. Every step is full of challenges. At court, Crown Prince Li Chengqian, the fourth prince Li Tai, and others repeatedly make things difficult for him and plot behind his back. Meanwhile, unknown forces are stirring in the martial world.
