A Flower in the Storm: Xiuer's Life

Story Synopsis

During the Republican era, Lin Xiuer was born into a poor fishing family in a waterside town in Jiangnan. Her father died young, and her mother remarried, leaving Lin to care for her younger siblings and shoulder the heavy burden of housework from an early age.

When she was fourteen, her stepfather sold her to the wealthy Chen family in town as a servant to pay off his gambling debts. Before she left, her mother secretly slipped her a copper coin. It was the only keepsake she had.
