The Tower Lamp in the Mist

(Sci-fi suspense + Lovecraftian atmosphere + hard-science biology, unveiling a terrifying dark truth about the origins of humanity)

In 2035, a research vessel accidentally strikes a colossal bronze tower in a deep-sea trench. Fungal spores transform the crew into symbiotic organisms. Technician Qin Shen discovers that the rate of mutation is synchronized with the symbols inside the tower, while the leader, Lin Xia, turns out to be connected by her past to an embryo experiment left behind by the Soviet Union. As the Pacific garbage patch becomes a glowing vortex, Minister Chen’s “Seventh Retrieval Experiment” reveals the truth: humanity has been genetically edited. To stop the tower from turning Earth into an interstellar spore bomb, Lin Xia swallows the consciousness spores her lover gave their life to preserve. Her right eye mutates into a “Spore Eye” capable of observing superstring signals. At last, she sinks into the abyss and, with her body turning transparent, completes a genetic handshake between two civilizations. A century later, the pupils of a new generation shimmer with dark bronze patterns, while a whale’s song rises from the deep, heralding the rebirth of civilization.
