The Heroic and Righteous is a period drama set during the War of Resistance Against Japan. It tells the legendary story of Liang Tianci, who grows into a hero of the resistance after enduring trials and upheavals brought on by the nation's enemies and his family's tragedy. In 1924, Liang Tianci, the second son of the Liang family, proprietors of a leather shop in Zhangjiakou, celebrates his wedding, only to be persecuted by Japanese merchants. In a single night, his family is destroyed and he loses everything. Fate turns him into a condemned prisoner, but after being rescued, he joins the “Daqingshan Volunteer Army,” which the authorities regard as a bandit force. As Japanese invaders sweep across the land, Liang Tianci and his brothers fight their way north and south. While covering the retreat of friendly forces, they are surrounded by the Japanese army. Liang Tianci directs a sniper to kill the Japanese commander, Sato Takeshi, but, outnumbered, ultimately dies a heroic death.
