Background and origin: It begins with "Havoc in Heaven", which tells the story of the stone monkey Sun Wukong who bravely broke into the Water Curtain Cave and became the Monkey King after he was born. In order to seek the art of immortality, he traveled across the ocean to learn from his master, and was named Sun Wukong. He learned the seventy-two transformations, somersault clouds and other magical powers. Later, because he was dissatisfied with the title of Bima Wen in heaven, he went down to heaven and proclaimed himself the "Great Sage Equaling Heaven". He fought against the heavenly soldiers and generals, and was eventually crushed by Tathagata Buddha under the Five Elements Mountain.
- Journey to obtain Buddhist scriptures: Five hundred years later, Monk Tang was enlightened by Guanyin Bodhisattva and went to the West to obtain Buddhist scriptures. On the way, he rescued Sun Wukong at Five Elements Mountain and accepted him as his disciple. Later, Zhu Bajie, Sha Seng and Bai Longma were taken in one after another. The four masters and apprentices defeated demons and demons along the way and went through eighty-one hardships. They encountered various demons and ghosts, such as the White Bone Demon who transformed into human form to confuse Tang Monk. Sun Wukong saw through it with his fiery eyes and beat him to death, but was misunderstood by Tang Monk and was driven back to Huaguo Mountain.
- Achievements in cultivation: The four masters and disciples were not afraid of hardships and dangers, strengthened their faith, and with the help of various gods and immortals, they finally reached Xitianling Mountain and obtained the true scripture. Sun Wukong was named the Fighting Victory Buddha, Tang Monk was named the Sandalwood Merit Buddha, Zhu Bajie was named the Messenger of the Pure Altar, Sha Monk was named the Golden Arhat, and White Dragon Horse was named the Eight Heavenly Dragons Guangli Bodhisattva.
