Synopsis: [Two female leads + equally powerful leads + scheming + tragic romance]
A breeze brushes past a storybook. A little girl sees it and goes over to open it. The book is thin, only 31 pages long. Its protagonist is a girl named Chen Zhao, and it tells the story of her life.
Chen Zhao’s life is far from happy. The deaths of both her parents, her classmates’ isolation and bullying, and the noise all around her shape her twisted mind and personality.
Then she appears. For the first time, Chen Zhao hears a different voice, and it fills her with curiosity.
Slowly, the two girls draw closer and closer.
But the voices all around them are too loud, too filthy.
Chen Zhao is afraid.
It is the first time she has ever felt fear.
So she runs away. Faster and faster, she runs…
At last, she stops in a windless place.
Chen Zhao had meant to bury herself in that windless place, but a clear stream breaks the stillness.
Just as the little girl is about to read on and find out what happens next, the story ends abruptly. It is as if someone tore out the ending, leaving the tale rushed and unfinished.
The little girl is left wanting more. But when she looks up, she sees that a mirror has appeared beside her. In it is the girl from the storybook, gazing at her through tears.
