The Great Hall of the Buddha’s Second Book

I was just an ordinary woman left behind in the countryside, thinking only of keeping the home together until my husband came back from working away. Who could have imagined fate would deal me so many cruel blows? After four years of marriage, I finally got pregnant, only to miscarry because my husband had an affair. Then I was diagnosed with a “terminal illness.” It struck like a bolt from the blue, shattering the little hope I had left! What was even crueler was that the man who once said he loved me learned I would have to endure treatment while already sick, and then simply abandoned me and ran off! I'd had enough! If life was going to be this hard, why should I keep myself trapped in this so-called “respectable” box? What if I gave up and let things fall apart? Things were already this bad, so how much worse could they get? If Heaven was so heartless that it wanted me dead, I wasn't going to let it have its way. I would fight this wretched fate to the bitter end! Even if I had to batter myself bloody, I would give it everything I had. I refuse to believe this miserable life can bury me forever.
