(The original title is Gintama: Psycho Yaro, meaning “Psycho Bastard.”)
“Psycho-Pass Amanto” descend upon Edo, claiming they will bring salvation to Earth. They will activate and erase every “psychopath” on the planet.
Under the influence of the PP Amanto, countless people labeled “psychopaths” mutate into “anomalies.”
In this samurai nation, slowly declining under the Sword Abolishment Edict, the Shinsengumi face these “anomalies,” whose physical abilities far surpass those of humans and who possess special powers. They draw their pistols, known as “Enforcers.”
This work contains many original characters, and both the main plot and everyday stories are original. Read with caution. (Illustrations can be found in the author’s note at the end.)
The story contains many references and jokes drawing on other works, Japanese-style cold humor, puns, Japanese culture, historical references, and multilingual jokes, all with notes and explanations.
New readers are encouraged to try starting with the slice-of-life arc in Chapter 6.
Current slice-of-life arcs: Chapters 6–16, Mountain Hag Gal Arc; 17–19, Secret Arc; 33–35, Mysterious Arc; 36–43, Silver Dragon Arc; 51–55, Four Seasons Arc; 56–59, Double Date Arc; 60–71, White Devil Arc; 73–93, Esports Tournament Arc; 94–96, Father Arc; 97–103, Day Off Arc; 104–108, Substitute Teacher Arc; 109–110, Inheritance Arc; 125–131, Farewell, Goku Arc.
The author is limited by the novel.
There are a large number of homophonic memes, cv memes, the use of other acg content and various infringements in Gintama. Except for the homophones that can be easily heard when watching Gintama, even if you don't understand other content, you can still enjoy watching Gintama. The joyful content of Gintama itself makes it possible for people who only understand part of the plot to watch it.
But in the form of a novel, the author not only has to annotate the homophones (after all, many people who can't hear Japanese can't read Japanese), but also faces stricter review than comics and animations (it's also difficult to use pictures to suggest it). He also has to explain the meaning of each stalk. Explaining the meaning of the stalks requires a lot of space, but it is actually very uncomfortable for readers, which will reduce the coherence of the novel.
In Gintama, Shinpachi (sometimes other people) will be used to explain these jokes, and sometimes some pictures will be attached to describe the specific acg content, so that even people who have never seen it can still laugh. But when they are arguing with each other (for example, when Gintoki Fourteen is quarreling and complaining about each other, the explanation is incidental), some pictures are needed to explain, which is difficult to complete in the form of a novel.
Another thing is that the reading speed cannot be adjusted as freely as the speaking speed. Gintama's voice actors are all pretty good. Gintoki, who had the worst dubbing in the early stage, quickly developed his own characteristics. When reading, it was better to use Japanese due to the influence of homophones, but it was difficult to imagine Gintoki speaking in my mind.
All in all, the author of this novel should have put a lot of thought into it, but I think it might be more attractive to turn it into a simple animation dubbed by AI.
The author is obviously explaining the plot, but I felt like I was reading an encyclopedia. It smells like Gintama. Come on!
Full of jokes, dirty jokes and Japanese homophones, this is the ultimate neurotic Gintama masterpiece! I want to read every sentence in Japanese, which makes these 100,000 words extremely long () I have watched n episodes of Gintama again, thank you for the treat ()
To be honest, I haven't watched Gintama, but seeing how interesting the author's writing is makes me want to watch it. Come on, author!
Very original fanfic! This is the second most on-point fanfic I've ever read! Thanks for the creation🥰
Authentic Gintama flavor, nice looking
There are a lot of them and it's fun enough. It also comes with a plot analysis. I feel like I've watched a few more episodes of Gintama.
This is the most Gintama-like fan fiction I've ever read
