A Life Like a Mayfly

In a small village at the southern foothills of the Qinling Mountains, the valleys lie coiled like giant dragons. Since the 1950s, this place too has endured years of bloodshed and turmoil. After losing their father, the protagonists, Yuanpeng, Yuanfang, and Yuanfeng, depend on their mother and each other. Life brings them both hardship and sweetness. Their story radiates outward to the people and events around them: heroes of the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, and martyrs of the counterattack against Vietnam. The cries echoing through the valleys are the farmers' voices of frustration and defiance. This land gave them life, raised them, and buried them. The story centers on the three brothers.

From the 1950s to the 2000s, how will this land and its farmers change? Will the land remain a constant companion throughout the farmers' lives? Follow A Life Like a Mayfly to learn about the hardships and frustrations of farmers everywhere, and how land is no longer essential to their survival.
