If someone still thinks of the Chaoshan region only in terms of so-called feudalism, superstition, and preference for sons, it only shows how shallow and one-sided their understanding of Chaoshan really is.
The cultural depth, unique customs, and diverse human spirit of this land cannot be summed up by such simplistic, narrow-minded labels.
Here, a long history has endured the passage of time and still shines brightly. Here, a rich variety of folk beliefs and traditional customs are not only a source of spiritual comfort for the people, but also a vivid expression of the region’s culture.
And when it comes to gender equality, Chaoshan society has also undergone tremendous change with the times. More and more women are making their mark in every field, demonstrating remarkable talent and ability and contributing to the region’s development.
If you think Chaoshan is just an ordinary place name, you’re making a serious mistake! In fact, Chaoshan is a vast region with deep cultural roots. It comprises the three cities of Chaozhou, Shantou, and Jieyang, like three brilliant pearls set in southern China.
Today, I’m going to tell a story centered around a traditional Chaoshan home, following a beautiful, strong-willed Chaoshan woman through the changing times.
It's pretty good. As a Shantou Chaoyang person, I have to support it.
