Please Recommend Some Really Good Apocalypse Novels, No Zombies!

Seriously, Are There No Apocalypse Stories Worth Reading These Days?

Apocalypse stories these days all seem to have the same plot: the protagonist's girlfriend or boyfriend betrayed them in their past life, or led their whole family to kill them. Then the protagonist comes back with a space or special abilities, and starts killing as soon as the apocalypse hits. The early chapters are okay, but the story gradually gets brainless in the middle and later parts.
