I was originally looking for novels with movie themes about the Republic of China, and I came across this one. I've only read Chapter 18, and I don't think it's too toxic.
But the more I read, the more I discovered that almost every chapter (the first 18 chapters) ends with "there is a conspiracy behind it", "the Gu family's conspiracy has begun", "the Gu family's counterattack has begun", "there is a huge conspiracy behind this matter", "the power grab within the family has begun", it is very consistent. Almost every chapter has it (referring to the first 18 chapters)
I feel like the author wanted to write about a difficult conflict, with the male protagonist resolving the conflict. Pushed to a climax by contradictions. But it felt too fast. The climax should be when the male protagonist resolves the conflict, but it was written like an assembly line.
I'll take another look.
