Springtime in the Apricot Grove: A Cast-Off Wife’s Splendid New Life

Su Nian was born into a family of renowned physicians. With no other choice, she married Han Shize, the legitimate son of General Huaiyuan. But her mother-in-law made life difficult for her at every turn, and her husband only had eyes for his childhood sweetheart, his cousin. She endured three years of misery.

At last, disillusioned, Su Nian let down her hair and resolutely demanded a letter of divorce from Han Shize. “Han Shize, I’m not a clay doll for you to mold as you please. Since your mother dislikes me and you have no love for me, I’ll ask to be cast aside!”

With his arm around his cousin, Han Shize sneered. “You’re a clueless woman. How will you manage after a divorce? Go to the estate and think things over for three days. Then come back and accept Wan’er’s tea!”

Su Nian gave a cold laugh and walked away.

A year later, she had not only established herself in Chengan Prefecture with her medical skills, but word had also spread that she had chosen a new husband.

Han Shize said, “My lady, come home with me. I’ll divorce Xu Wan’er right now!”

Li Heng replied, “In broad daylight, sir, you’d best not go around claiming people who aren’t yours.”

Then he put an arm around Su Nian’s shoulders and said gently, “My lady, let’s go home.”
