Synopsis

Rooted in official history, told in an engaging, accessible style.

Vivid characters and events that reflect reality.

(The Rise of the Qin Empire)

Qin Shi Huang, founder of China's imperial system, had a complicated background and a turbulent childhood. Yet he rose resolutely from the chaos of his age to become its central figure, conquering the six kingdoms and earning a place as one of history's greatest emperors. He favored Legalism over Confucianism and swiftly established the institutions of a unified empire. He held a grand ceremony on Mount Tai, sought immortality through alchemists and elixirs, built the Great Wall and the Epang Palace, and ruled with an iron hand as he forged China's first unified empire.

Conquering an empire is easy; keeping it is hard. In the Qin dynasty's later years, officials drove the people to revolt. Chen Sheng and Wu Guang raised the banner of rebellion, while Liu Bang and Xiang Yu prepared to make their move. Qin Shi Huang was gone, and a new dynasty was about to take the stage.

(The Contest for Supremacy Between Chu and Han)

One book to understand how heroes rise amid chaos!

During the wars that destroyed the Qin, Xiang Yu and Liu Bang each grew their forces. After the dynasty fell, they rapidly emerged as the two strongest among the contenders for the realm. As they recruited talent from across the land and faced the realities of war, they drifted farther apart until they became sworn enemies. In the end, Liu Bang was the hero who had the last laugh.

(Building and Securing the Empire)

One book to understand the schemes, both open and covert, that transformed chaos into order!

The Han dynasty was founded, and after Liu Bang ascended the throne, he showed what it meant to cast aside those who were no longer useful. He sought to eliminate, one by one, the generals who had helped him conquer the realm, while keeping the various factions in balance. He also had to contend with the border threat posed by the Xiongnu.

During the years of Liu Bang's reign, he transformed from a roving swordsman into an emperor, while his civil and military officials embarked on very different paths. At last, China entered the glorious age of the Han!

(The Power Grab of Empress Lü)

One book to learn the full story of China's first empress to wield absolute power, both in life and after death!

After Liu Bang's death, the court enthroned Liu Ying. But Lü Zhi, who had once been held captive in the Qin camp and taken prisoner at Pengcheng, understood that only by holding power herself could she ensure her own survival. Her extreme hunger for power stirred, and at last bared its fangs.

After cruelly killing Prince Ruyi of Zhao and Lady Qi, Lü Zhi ruled from behind the throne for nearly eight years. She first killed the former young emperor Liu Gong, then installed the later young emperor Liu Hong, manipulating imperial power as if it were in the palm of her hand. Lü Zhi kept producing heirs of the Liu clan while making members of her own Lü clan kings and queens. The Liu family's realm was on the verge of becoming the Lü family's. What would become of the Han dynasty...?

Historically Accurate, Without Making Things Up

Historical fiction has more room for worldbuilding, with vivid characters and no distortion of history. I want a satisfying read that covers dynasties, major and minor events, wars, and loyal civil and military officials, all presented in a historical setting.

Looking for Historical Novels with a Well-Informed Sky Screen

I looked around on Tomato and found that lots of people watch short videos, get worked up about history, and then write novels. Many treat novels and TV dramas as actual history, and even marketing-account content gets taken as fact. Please, I want authors with a little more cultural knowledge. No more romanticizing our ancestors; portray the Yuan and Qing objectively.

It's exciting from beginning to end, the language is simple and fluent, the characters are clearly and vividly drawn, I like it for being more abiding by the official history 👍. But what about the subsequent Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties?

Captivating from the start, this book feels as much like a historical film as it does a feature film. Moreover, the summary at the end of the article is also very pertinent. In particular, we have a comprehensive and objective understanding of Liu Bang, the founding emperor. And accept such an emperor from the bottom of my heart! I really want to continue hearing and reading the subsequent history!

It's amazing to write the official history so vividly. Didn't it start from the Qin Dynasty and end with the Qing Dynasty? What's next?

The author interprets the history of classical Chinese that is difficult to understand very profoundly. What is commendable is that it is based on historical documents and supported by supporting evidence, telling history positively and profoundly, impartially and objectively, so that future generations of readers can learn from history.
