Every Lunar New Year, my mother-in-law brings my sister-in-law's family to my house to mooch off me for a whole month.
During their stay, my father-in-law looks down on me,
my mother-in-law bullies me,
and my sister-in-law's two children bully my daughter until she cries.
This year, her son even sent my daughter a message in advance: "Big brother's coming to touch under your skirt soon. Just you wait~"
I told my husband not to bring them over, but when I got off work, I saw his family had already arrived.
I was completely disappointed.
I picked up the phone and called my mom.
"Please get my visa sorted out. I want to go home."
But then he pulled out an A4 sheet of paper,
covered in tiny writing: ten thousand words of instructions for the New Year.
"Go buy 100 jin of pork to make dumplings."
"This year, we have to put on a full Manchu-Han banquet. Then next year we'll all get rich together."
"Take down all the window screens and wash them again. It's how we welcome the God of Wealth."
"Oh, and my parents will be staying here too, along with my younger sister's family, so wash all the sheets and bedding ahead of time."
