Don't Cry, You're Not Worth It

My daughter had a rare blood type and was in a car accident. She urgently needed a transfusion. Her life hung in the balance.

But the only person whose blood matched hers, her father, was accompanying his first love and her son overseas to see an art exhibition.

I called my husband again and again, but he rejected every call. As the hopeless beeping continued, a glimmer of hope finally appeared.

Du Yuan lowered his voice and asked coolly, “What is it?”

Choking on my sobs, I begged him, “Honey, I was wrong. Please, come back right away. Mianmian isn't going to make it. You're the only one who can save her.”

As I spoke, a woman's voice rang out even louder.

“Brother Yuan, the flight attendant just came to first class to remind us that we're not allowed to use any communication devices. Don't make things difficult for them.”

After a rapid series of beeps, I got no further response.

The doctors were unable to save my daughter. All that remained was to buy a grave and arrange her cremation three days later.
