During the Warring States Period, the state of Qi became increasingly powerful under the reforms of King Qi Wei. King Wei of Qi appointed Zou Ji as prime minister, promoted the rule of law, opened up the public opinion, and made Qi's politics clear; military preparations were strengthened, the army was reorganized, and its combat effectiveness was improved. Since then, Qi has gone through two generations, King Qi Xuan and King Qi Min, and its national power has continued to increase.
By the time of King Min of Qi, the State of Qi reached its peak. Its territory is vast, its economy is prosperous, and its military is powerful. It has the ability to compete with Qin. The two countries were even called the East and West Emperors at one time, and Qi had the potential to dominate the world.
However, everything that goes great must come crashing down. King Min of Qi went on war campaigns, and his attempt to destroy the Song Dynasty caused panic in other countries and seriously threatened the interests of other vassal states. In order to avenge Qi's attack on Yan, King Zhao of Yan recruited talents and appointed Le Yi to actively prepare for revenge. With his efforts, he successfully united the four kingdoms of Korea, Zhao, Wei, and Qin to form a five-nation coalition to jointly conquer Qi.
In the battle of the Five Kingdoms against Qi, Qi suffered heavy losses. The coalition forces defeated the Qi army in Jixi, and then Le Yi led the Yan army to march straight in and conquered more than 70 cities. The Qi state was almost destroyed. King Min of Qi was killed by Nao Chi, the general of Chu State, on his way to escape. After this battle, the vitality of the Qi State was severely damaged. Although Tian Dan later used the Fire Ox Formation to restore the country, he could only live in a corner and linger, and his former glory was gone forever.
