A slender hand placed a white piece on the board in front. "And so, the game is set. Only one move remains."
Thunder and rain raged. The firefly-like starlight was hidden by the night, as though something was being buried.
"Don't leave me behind, Sister Qiu!" Like glass smashed to pieces, shards split apart, stained with blood that dripped, drip after drip.
"Ling, Zhen, Daniel! Let's go together..."
A tiny, thin girl curled up in a corner as a poster floated down before her eyes.
"The Aotu Tournament, huh? Interesting. Is it a competition full of hope, where contestants' dreams come true? Or a blood-soaked tournament so horrifying it makes your blood run cold?"
She laughed, wildly and miserably.
"Then get ready. I'm coming."
(I feel like this blurb didn't turn out too well, so if you can't understand it, just skip it and go straight to the story. ξ( ✿>◡❛))
(The title, The Chess Piece and the Player, basically means that the protagonist, Elaine, and Michelle played a grand game of chess, with herself at the center and herself as a chess piece. So she's the one who set up the game, the player, and also an important piece. That's more or less what the title means. The purpose of this game is to deal with the curse, or at least get rid of it somehow.)
