The Dao De Jing is a classic of traditional Chinese culture, studied by scholars throughout history as an essential text. Over the centuries, it has received thousands of commentaries. Since commentators lived in different eras and had different backgrounds and beliefs, their interpretations naturally vary. The Huang-Lao school drew on its teachings as "the art of governing from above"; practitioners of health cultivation saw it as a guide to "living in peace and fulfilling one's destiny"; military thinkers regarded it as a guide to "the art of war"; and emperors viewed it as a strategy for "governing the country and securing the realm." There is no consensus, while modern scholars tend to classify it as a philosophical work discussing abstract principles.
How should the Dao De Jing be classified, read, and understood? Readers must relate it to current events and their own circumstances, and put its true meaning to use in their lives.
Tao Te Ching, my favorite book 👍👍👍
