Lu Jiashu is an upright and incorruptible official, untouched by greed and unwilling to take so much as a pin or a thread from the people. He wages a life-or-death struggle against corrupt officials, preferring to offend his superiors rather than give them gifts. He does everything he can to ease the tax burden and improve the people's lives. To settle disputes, he reasons with people, appeals to their feelings, and guides them through virtue.
