The Last Taoist: Youling Ridge
Under an ancient pine at the Three Pure Ones Temple, Zha Wenbin sat with his eyes closed, meditating. A gentle breeze drifted past, carrying the fresh air unique to the mountains. Suddenly, his disciple Zhuo Xiong hurried over, breaking the silence. “Master, there's a letter!” Zha Wenbin opened his eyes and took the old-fashioned envelope. There was no return address, only the words “For Zha Wenbin's eyes only,” written in bold, vigorous script.
He opened the letter. Though it contained only a few words, they made him frown. “Mr. Zha, strange disturbances have arisen at Youling Ridge, and evil spirits are multiplying. If you want peace to return to the world, come at once.” There was no signature, but Zha Wenbin sensed it was no joke. Youling Ridge was cursed land. Legend said that once you entered, you could never leave unscathed.
“Zhuo Xiong, pack our things. We're going to Youling Ridge.” Zha Wenbin rose, his gaze resolute. Zhuo Xiong looked worried, but quickly gathered the peachwood sword, bagua compass, and other supplies. And so, master and disciple set out on an uncertain journey to Youling Ridge.
