The biggest highlight of the novel is the shaping of the character of the protagonist Lin An. He is not a hero in the traditional sense, but a complex character: selfish, cunning, but also gradually growing up while getting along with the Li Ping brothers and sisters. From initially enjoying mushroom soup secretly to later taking risks to protect Li Shuiyue, his transformation makes people feel both real and full of expectations.
